Music Monday! Week 29.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Music Monday, Christina Perri is officially back with her brand new powerful ballad “Human” from her upcoming album.

This song is a breathtaking alternative pop ballad and Christina’s vocals are powerful, exactly how it should be to convey the message of the song. Her voice is nice and calm during the verses, but as soon the chorus begins her voice becomes a powerhouse. Her new single tells us a story that we are humans and it is alright to feel weak. It is human nature and none of us are perfect. This is a great and powerful return, welcome back Christina.

Christina Perri made her debut in the spotlight in 2010 with her song “Jar of Hearts” and her album “Lovestrong” sold over a million copies around the world. She is also known for writing the song “Thousand Years” part 1 and 2,  which was featured on Breaking Dawn Part 1&2 soundtracks.

Enjoy and have an amazing Monday!

Lifestyle Sundays! Bullying Awareness Week.

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the third segment on my blog called Lifestyle Sundays, this will not be a regular segment. I wanted to create this segment because I’ve been wanting to write about various topics, which are not related to music or fashion. I have a few topics in mind, but I will not reveal them now. For my first “Lifestyle Sunday” post, I am going to write about a serious topic, bullying.

This week it is Bullying Awareness Week in Canada, this week long event was created by Bill Belsey. During this week there are presentations in schools to educate children about the seriousness of bullying. The biggest and most important point that Bill Belsey tries to explain to us is that we as a community have to join hands and put a stop to bullying. I couldn’t agree more with his ideology, this is a topic that very dear to my heart. When I immigrated with my family to Canada, I used to be teased by the kids at school. Luckily, it wasn’t anything major, but mostly being teased because I had an accent and I am a foreigner. When I was an undergrad student at the Child and Youth Care program, I wrote my thesis paper about bullying. I feel very dedicated to this cause and I do believe change is rooted in our community. Just like Bill Belsey says, I want to see bullying disappear from society and change is possible as long as we unite together and bring awareness to the community.

Now let’s talk about what is bullying and what are the different types of bullying.

Bullying is a serious matter that can be expressed in different ways. There are three types of bullying: physical bullying, verbal bullying and relational bullying. Physical bullying includes behaviors such as kicking and hitting, verbal bullying includes behaviors such as teasing and ridicule and relational bullying is a form social isolation that includes behaviors such as gossiping and spreading rumors. Victims of bullying can experience psychological distress, anxiety, depression, loneliness, low self-esteem and much more. Many adults claim that bullying is natural part of growing up and I highly disagree with this statement. I don’t think it is normal to hit, ridicule and isolate children through bullying.

Bullying can have a psychological impact on children.

Bullying awareness needs to begin at the child’s household, parents need to be educated about the consequence of bullying and the effects it can have on children. I am tired of reading about teenagers committing suicide because they were bullied. It breaks my heart reading such tragedy and it needs to stop. Parents need to take bullying seriously and talk to their children, not once, but on a regular basis. School personnel have to be educated about bullying and try to implement anti-bullying programs within the schools. They have to educate children that bullying is toxic and teach children to stand up for their peers when they are bullied.

As a community we need to join hands and come up with strategies that will bring awareness not only at a society level, but global level as well. Bullying happens anywhere and in any country, of course it difficult to create a world change or completely eliminate bullying, but we can try to create societal change.

As a community we can accomplish a lot.

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” -Mahatma Gandhi

Friday Funday! Aquarium Wonder.

Hello everyone,

Welcome to another week of Friday Funday, I hope everyone is enjoying my new segment, today’s post will be about photography.

Two weeks ago, I got the chance to visit the newly opened Aquarium place in my city and let me tell you, it is totally worth the hype. The Aquarium is 12,500 meters, with more than 5.7 million liters of water representing marine and freshwater habitats from around the world. There are over 15,000 animals, my favorites are the jelly fish, sharks, sea turtles, sea horses and the octopuses. It was so surreal to see these animals in person, I was dreaming one day to go to an aquarium and this dream came true.

I want to share a few of the pictures I took, the lighting was not the best at the Aquarium, so I tried to make the best of it.

Enjoy and Happy Friday 🙂

I hope you enjoyed these photos 🙂

p.s. Remember, Friday Funday is an every other week segment, my next post will be a book review for one of the most popular books “Allegiant”.

Music Monday! Week 28.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Music Monday, today I am going to share the music video, “Memories” by the band Within Temptation.

Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal/rock band that was first introduced into the spotlight in 1996. The band was founded by the vocalist of group Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. I discovered this band in 2007 and I fell in love with their music, to this day I still listen to their music. I am a huge fan of rock music and symphonic rock/metal music. Within temptation is not a mainstream band, but it  reached a significant popularity in 2001 with their single “Ice Queen”. Their following albums, “Silent Force” (which is my favorite) and The Heart of Everything reached number one on the Dutch charts. The band has a unique goth image, but it has an element of elegance which I adore. Sharon’s vocals are simply stunning, her Opera singer vocal abilities capture the listeners attention and it sounds soothing.

I hope you enjoy this song and let me know what you think in the comments box below.

Music Monday! Week 27.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Music Monday, today I will be sharing a new song by Britney Spears, called “Perfume”.

When I listened to this song for the first time, I thought “Whoa her voice sounds so different”. Many people state that her voice is auto tuned, I personally do not hear any auto tune effects. Her voice is not her usual high pitch vocals, in fact her vocal here remind me of her “Baby One More Time” days. If you listen to her very first album, her voice sounds very similar to what it is for this song. Fans are used to hearing Britney’s high pitched voice so much that they become startled hearing her sound so different.

This is a song from her upcoming album “Britney Jean” which is said to be one of her most personal albums. I am eagerly looking forward to it.

Let me know what you think about the song in the comments box below and enjoy 🙂

Lest We Forget!

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Remembrance Day

Happy Remembrance Day, today we celebrate the bravery of soldiers who fought in the two world wars and current wars. Thank you for risking your lives to protect us, your bravery is and was amazing.

It saddens me to see that violence still exists today, wars are ongoing and it only creates more damage and tragedy. Humanity should be advancing, not regressing by being more violent. People should have learned their lesson from the past, because the past taught us what not to do. However, it seems that now the answer is to answer violence with violence. No, that is not the way, peace can easily exist if people try hard enough.

Peace over violence always! We don’t want to lose anymore people because of wars!
