Music Monday! Week 34.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to the last Music Monday of 2013, not to worry though there are plenty more Music Mondays to come in 2014. Thank you so much to everyone who has been keeping up with this segment, I am thrilled to see that so many of you are enjoying it. Now onto this week’s music video pick.

2NE1 Missing YouAs most of you know, I am a huge fan of Asian music, but in particular K-Pop. This week’s pick is “Missing You” by the K-Pop sensation, 2ne1. The song is a touching ballad about a breakup, the single peaked at number 2 on the Gaon Singles Chart. Just like many of you I can’t speak Korean, therefore I do not understand the lyrics. However, if you are curious to know what the lyrics mean, please read the English translation below.

Don’t be so comfortable like that
Because we’re still strangers
Don’t rush me like a child
Because it haven’t started yet

I dont like the youth’s love like playing with fire

I’m just shaking a bit, but I’m okay
No, the truth is

I still hate you, you who left me
My cold heart is still

Missing you
Missing you
Missing you

Missing you
Missing you

Don’t be so bright like that
Because the world is dark

How can I smile brightly (what?)
If you’ll look closely, I am sad
I know I’ve been there before

I dont like the calculative love of adults
I’m just tired but i’m okay
No, the truth is

I still hate you, you who left me
My cold heart is still

Missing you
Missing you
Missing you

Missing you
Missing you

The love of my young days is ending like this
You have to be happy
Even if a long time passes by, we’ll still remember each other
Those times when there was still “us”

Those times when there was still “us”

Enjoy and stay tuned for the final three blog posts of 2013, which are coming up tomorrow.

See you soon.

Top 10 Music Moments: 2013 Edition!

Hello everyone,

It has been a very eventful year in the world of music, so I decided to pick the top 10 music moments of 2013. Enjoy!

Music in 2013!

1. Beyonce’s Surprise Album Release. Beyonce certainly surprised all of us this year with her surprise album release. Her self titled album was released on December 13, 2013, before she released her 14 track album, Beyonce revealed that she recorded 80 songs. Her album currently peak at number one on the Billboard chart for third week in a row. Queen Bee has done it again.

2. Destiny’s Child Super Bowl 2013 XLVII Halftime Show Reunion. If you grew up listening to Destiny’s Child, then this moment brought back many nostalgic feelings. The performance was pure perfection, it was great seeing them back together. Now time for 2014 album release, it doesn’t hurt to hope.

3. David Bowie’s Return. You thought you’ve seen the last of David Bowie in the music industry, didn’t you? Well surprise, surprise, David Bowie is back with his twenty-fourth studio album, “The Next Day”. This is Mr. Bowie’s first album since 2003, his album is ranked the second best album of 2013 and the album is nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

4. Cory Monteith’s Farewell. A sad moment in music this year was the passing of Glee star, Cory Monteith. Cory passed away at the tender age of 31 years old from his hard battle with substance abuse addiction. Cory started to seek help the beginning of 2013, however being addicted since his teenage years, he lost his battle. It was a very emotional moment for his fans, family, friends and his girlfriend Lea Michele. Rest in peace Cory.

5. Justin Timberlake’s return to the music scene. This is a moment that many fans have been waiting for, including myself. Mr. Timberlake came back to the music scene with bang and he has once again reminded us of his great talent.

6. Miley Cyrus’s controversial return. There is no doubt that Miley Cyrus made the headlines very frequently this year with the release of her single “We Can’t Stop”. To top it all off, her VMA performance was the cherry on top, in a bad way. Miley’s old Hannah Montana image no longer exists and Miley has made that very clear with her actions. I wonder what Miley has in store for us in 2014.

7. Macklemore/Ryan Lewis and Lorde Takes Us By Storm. This year has been a great year for introducing new and unique artists in the music industry. Macklemore, often compared to Eminem because of his outstanding rapping abilities, became a mainstream artist thanks to his hit single “Thrift Shop”. A catchy beat, with interesting lyrics, the duo, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis continue to introduce great new hits. Lorde’s unique persona and captivating music style is the new big thing in music. The 17 year old New Zealand singer shined with her song “Royals”. Both artists have been nominated for a Grammy.

8. YouTube’s Viral Music. There is no question that  2013 was the year of catchy music from the “Harlem Shake” by  Baauer to the “The Fox” by Ylvis. “Harlem Shake” peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the song became so viral, that people began recording dances to this song. “The Fox” peaked at number 6 and it has about 309,611,919 views. Both song became a worldwide hit for their catchy melodies.

9. Daft Punk’s Groovy Return. Daft Punk returned to the music scene this year and it has been very exciting. This is their first album release since 2005, fans were excited to see the biggest electronic music duo. Their new album is packed is funky/groovy tracks, if you are an electronic music fan then this album is for you.

10. TLC’s Comeback at the AMAs. The last time we saw TLC together was paying a tribute to Left Eye at the VMAs, this year they finally made a comeback with Lil Mama taking Left Eye’s place. It has been confirmed that TLC will be going on  tour in 2014, however exact dates have no been announced yet. I’ll keep you posted when I hear something.

What was your favorite music moment of 2013?

Lifestyle Sunday! An Icy Christmas.

Hello everyone,

As you can tell from the title of this post, today I’ll be talking about the ice storm that happened in my city. I hope you enjoy my story and let me know if you had such an experience.

It all began Saturday night whilst I and my mother were getting ready to see the Nutcracker ballet (by the way the show was great). I was wearing heels and as I walked out of my building, I was close to falling many times. The ground seemed more slippery than usual, but I thought to myself that by tomorrow it will be fine. Later on that evening when I got home I got a text from my cousin telling me he had no power. At that time I still had my power in my home, so I thought I got very lucky. On Sunday morning I woke up to the sight of the trees covered in ice. I have never seen such a unique and beautiful sight. It literally seemed like something I would see from a Fantasy book or movie. My Sunday was very relaxing, wrapping gifts, working on blog posts and many other things. Around 7 o’clock I went to the kitchen to make myself dinner, whist making it the power suddenly went out. I was very disappointed, but I decided to wait until Monday because I thought the power will come back the next day. Well I couldn’t more wrong about that!

On Monday I went to downtown to run some errands, after I was done I decided to go to Starbucks and charge my phone. I stayed at Starbucks for two hours, it wasn’t pleasant, but thankfully the shop wasn’t packed with people. After my phone charged, I finally left noticing every outlet in the mall was used by people to charge their phones. It’s funny how depended we have become on our technological devices. If this happened in 90s, we would read near a candle light and chat with people in our home. This is actually what I decided to do for the rest of Monday evening.

The heat in the apartment was alright on Monday night, however on Tuesday morning it was freezing. In the afternoon, me and my family went to my aunt’s place for Christmas Eve and slept over at her apartment. Later on that day, I was watching the news and it was stated that elderly people from my building were brought over to a nearby church, so they can be somewhere warm. The aftermath of the storm was distressing for some people, but I think it was especially hard for the elderly. Thankfully, the situation was taken into consideration and they took care of the vulnerable group of individuals.

On Christmas Day I woke up extra early, this is probably the only day when I’m willing to wake up so early in the morning. The gifts that I had for my aunt and her family were in my apartment, so I decided to go and get them. As I walked through the park I was hoping to see the power back in my building. The closer I got to my building, I began to see that the lights in front of my building were on. At that point, I began running with a huge smile on my face as I finally saw light inside the building. Therefore Christmas Day was great, I and my family went back home, it was still cold in the apartment, but we turned on the heaters. However, I still had to bundle up and wear three socks, I am not joking. We were fortunate enough to have our power back, but currently there are still people without power.

So what is the moral of the story? Always have these items in your home in case of a power outage: flashlight, candles (I didn’t have any and it was pretty dark), portable phone charger ( the ones that do not need an outlet, there are such for iPhone users, but I’m not sure about other phones) and most importantly a place where you can sleepover if the power is out for more than one or two days.

Now I want to share with you all some pictures I took of the icy trees, it is breathtaking. Enjoy 🙂

Hello everyone,

Merry Christmas!!! I wish everyone all the best and to have a fabulous day filled with lots of laughter.

Music Monday! Week 33.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Music Monday, I am currently writing this post on my phone whilst it is charging at Starbucks at a mall. We had a ice storm in my city on Saturday and the aftermath is power outage, hence why I’m at Starbucks charging my phone. However, power outage will not stop me to post my weekly music video. When there is a will, there is always a way.

Christmas Eve is tomorrow and in honor of the holidays, the video I’ll share today is “All Alone On Christmas” by Darlene Love. Does that title ring a bell? Yes, this is a song from the Home Alone 2 soundtrack. This is my all time favorite Christmas song and I wanted to share it with you all.

Darlene Love is an American singer and actress who gained popularity back in 1960 with her single “He’s a rebel.” The genre of songs she sings are jazz, pop, soul and rock. Darlene Love was chosen for induction on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Enjoy and Happy Holidays everyone 🙂

p.s. I will be writing a longer post about the ice storm and share pictures, some time this week.

Friday Funday! Holly Jolly Tag♥

Happy Holidays my lovely followers,

Christmas decorations, Christmas movies, Christmas music, lots of snow and hot chocolate, it is indeed beginning to look like Christmas. Christmas is my all time favorite holiday, I always feel very happy around this time of the year.  Next week it is Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so I thought it was very appropriate to do the Holly Jolly Tag which is very popular on YouTube. I tag everyone of my followers to go ahead and do this fun tag too.

Enjoy 🙂

1. Do you start your Christmas shopping on Black Friday or wait until the last minute?

I usually wait until the last minute, but this year I am more disciplined. I started my Christmas shopping the first week of December. I finally finished my Christmas shopping yesterday.

2. If you could be in any Christmas movie what would it be?

Hands down Home Alone, for me this is the greatest Christmas movie, it is fun to watch it and I think it would be fun to go along the adventures with Kevin (minus the bandits).

3. Which do you like better: Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

I like them both, but I personally prefer Christmas Eve because of the fond memories I have from my childhood. As most of you know by now, I wasn’t born in Canada, but in Bulgaria, we never had Christmas Day dinner. On the other hand, we always had a huge Christmas Eve dinner with my family and extended family members. After the dinner the adults would chat and the kids would play and then at midnight we would open presents. Occasionally, there were times when we would open gifts in the morning.

4. When does your family put up your Christmas tree and who decorates it?

Back in Bulgaria we always used to put it up on the 21 or 22 of December, but ever since we came to Canada we starting putting it up either the first or second week of December.

5. White lights or colored lights?

This one is tough because I love them both, but I lean more towards colored. They add a fun element to the tree and it seems more fun and festive. However, I would use white lights if I wanted my tree to look more sophisticated.

6. Are you guilty of peeking at your presents or do you like the surprise?

As much as I want to peak, I try not to do that because I like to be surprised. It makes Christmas morning a lot more fun when it is a surprise gift.

Tumblr7. Would you rather live in a gingerbread house or in Santa’s Workshop?

Oh come on, both of these options sounds awesome, but I would rather live in a gingerbread house. I’ll have sweets to eat all the time haha.

8. Tell us your Christmas Eve traditions!

On Christmas Eve my family gets together and we cook a huge dinner, there has to be 9 dishes and all of them meatless. However, we kind of modified that rule and add different kinds of salami on the table. The cooking process usually takes up most of the day, so around 7 o’clock or 8 we sit down and have dinner. Before dinner we usually have small appetizers for anyone who might get hungry earlier in the day. Then we sit down and talk or watch a Holiday movie. Sometimes we open the gifts at midnight, but now we prefer to get together in the morning and open the gits. I am also planning to start a new tradition and prepare a festive Christmas breakfast. Besides that a tradition I follow every year for myself is to watch the Disney parade.

9. If you could be under the mistletoe with anyone who would it be?

My crush, that would make the holidays even more special.

10. What tops your tree?

A sparkly golden star 🙂

11. Can you name the 12 days of Christmas?

Nope lol.

12. Have you ever gone Christmas caroling?

Never, but I want to try it one day.

13. Do you countdown to Christmas? If so, how many days are left?

Not really, I just wait patiently for the day to arrive.

14. What are some foods and treats you can count on having every holiday season?

Candy canes, peanuts/pistachios and hot chocolate.

15. How has Christmas kept its magic for you as you’ve grown older?

It’s true that when you grow up Christmas feels a little bit different, but for me one thing that maintains the Christmas magic is spending the holidays with my family. It gives me a nostalgic feeling of the old days, but we can also make new memories. Spending the holidays with people that you love can always keep the Christmas magic. Also let’s not forget classic Christmas movies, yummy treats and fun Christmas music.
