Welcome back to the first Music Monday of 2014, today we are taking a step back in time to the good old 90s. If you grew up watching MTV like myself, then I’m pretty sure most of you know this song. The song I am referring to is “Mambo Number 5” by Lou Beta.
Lou Bega is a German singer of an Italian and Ugandan descent, “Mambo Number 5” is the single that put him in the spotlight. “Mambo Number 5” is actually remake of Perez Prado’s 1949 instrumental version. Lou Bega decided to add lyrics to the songs and adding modern sound to the song.
The music video feature Lou Bega is most likely paying homage to the 1920s music. The video also features flappers, who are young women from the 1920s that listened to jazz music, wore short skirts and bobbed hair. Some of them were also know for engaging in an inappropriate behavior which was frowned upon back the 1920s.
“Mambo Number 5” debuted at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, this groovy song will make you want to get up and dance.
Enjoy and have a groovy Monday!
See you soon!
