Top 10 Movie Songs, Academy Awards Edition!

Hello everyone,

Happy Academy Awards Day! This is usually the award show that concludes award season and I wanted to join by adding my own contribution to this year’s Academy Awards. Today I will be sharing with you all my top 10 favorite movie songs, I hope you enjoy and happy reading and listening 🙂

10. Kissing You – Des’ree

“Kissing You” is a song from the Romeo and Juliet (1996) soundtrack, this is a heartfelt beautiful song!

9. She’s a Maniac – Micheal Sembello

Does Flashdance ring a bell? If it does, you are right, “She’s a Maniac” is a song from from the classic movie, “Flashdance”. The single debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and it was nominated for an Academy Award.

8. Safe and Sound – Taylor Swift ft. The Civil Wars

Here is a more recent movie song I absolutely love, “Safe and Sound” is a song recorded for “The Hunger Games” soundtrack. The song was nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 55th Grammy Awards and won a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media. The song was also nominated for Best Original Song at the 70th Golden Globe Awards.

7. Eye of The Tiger – Survivor

“Eye of The Tiger” is song from “Rocky III” soundtrack, the single debuted at number 1 for six consecutive weeks. A great song, for a great movie!

6. Jai Ho – A.R. Rahman

“Jai Ho” is a song composed to the Academy Award wiinning movie, “Slumdog Millionaire”. The single received an Academy Award for Best Original Song!

5. Independent Women I – Destiny’s Child

This song certainly brings back childhood memories, “Independent Women I” is part of the 2000 version of “Charlie’s Angels”. The single was nominated for Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other or Other Visual Media at the 2001 Grammy Awards.

4. Circle of Life – Carmen Twillie

This opening song of the hit Disney movie “The Lion King” always gives me goosebumps, even now. The song was written and composed by Elton John and Tim Rice, vocals are by Carmen Twillie and opening Zulu vocals is by Lebo M. The song was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

3. Lose Yourself – Eminem

“Lose Yourself” is the first single from the “8 Mile” soundtrack, the single received an Academy Award for Best Original Song and it won two Grammy Awards for Best Male Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song. 

2. My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion

“My Heart Will Go On” is the main theme song from the hit movie “Titanic” and it won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Celine Dion also won a Grammy Award for Record of The Year, Song of The Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Song Written Specifically for Motion Picture or Television. That’s not all, the song also received a Golden Globe for Best Original Song – Motion Picture.

1. I Will Always Love You – Whitney Houston

“I Will Always Love You” is a song recorded for the hit movie “The Bodyguard”, the single multiple charts and it won a Grammy Award for Record of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance (Female).
