Friday Funday! Top 5 Japanese Dramas.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Friday Funday! I am continuing my top five series and today I’ll be sharing with you my top 5 favorite Japanese dramas. J-dramas are a unique mix of  comedy, to romance, to tragedy and science fiction. I started watching J-dramas two years ago out of pure boredom, I was trying to find a Korean movie on Youtube and one of the suggestions on the side were a few J-dramas. The first one I watched is “Koizura”, this is a tragic/romantic love story that made me cry as much as Titanic did. Since watching this drama, I needed to watch more and of course I relied on Google to find moreJapanese TV shows. Since then I’ve been loving the wonderful world of j-dramas, these shows may not to be to everyone’s liking because some of them can be quite strange. Hey, I have to be honest, but these kinds of shows are hilarious and it is refreshing to watch something different. Of course, there are serious and suspenseful j-dramas as well and the list  is endless. I should seriously move to Japan and live there, I think that would be a blast.

I am going to share with you some clips, trailer or opening theme videos from the show. Enough chit-chat now, let’s get started with the top 5 countdown ! Enjoy.

1. Hana Yori Dango.

Oh my goodness, this is my all time favorite j-drama and I cannot express it with words how much I actually love it. Hana Yori Dango was the first romantic drama that was recommended on Google, the show is based of the Japanese manga “Hana Yori Dango” meaning ‘Boys Over Flowers”. It follows the story of Makino Tsukushi who is the only “commoner” attending Eitoku Gakuen. The school is attended by the rich and privileged, that’s also ruled by a four member group called Flower 4 or F4. The leader Domyoji Tsukasa and heir of Domyoji World Finance Group, Hanazawa Rui, the quiet son of a large company, Nishikado Sojiro a flirtatious playboy who is the heir of a tea ceremony school and Mimasaka Akira, the madam killer preferring to date older women and his family is very powerful  to the Japanese underground.  If anyone tries to cross their paths, the F4 will put a red notice in the student’s locker and publicly humiliate them in front of everyone in the school.

Makino hopes to get through her school years without attracting anyone’s attention, however while standing up for her friend against the leader, Domyoji Tsukasa, the next day she receives a red notice. Even though Makino is bullied by the F4, she decides she is a “tough weed” and declares war right back on the F4. A love triangle is slowly formed between Hanazawa Rui (who defends her) and her worst enemy, Domyoji Tsukasa.

The shows has two seasons (season 1- 9 episodes), (season 2 – 11 episodes) and a movie. Generally, the number of episodes for Japanese dramas is shorter than American TV shows. I managed to watch everything within two weeks, I couldn’t pull away from the computer screen because it was addictive to watch. If you are planning to start watching J-dramas, then definitely start with this one. I will be sharing with you the movie trailer, enjoy!

2. Hanazakari no Kimitachi (Hana Kimi)

Probably one of the most hilarious J-dramas I have watched, I was laughing so much because the show can be very silly.

This drama is based on the Japanese manga and I like to call this show the Japanese version of “She’s The Man” with Amanda Bynes. It follows the story of Ashiya Mizuki who disguises herself as a boy and moves to a boy’s boarding school. She falls in love with Sano Izumi who is skilled at high jump, but had quit because of an accident. Mizuki moves to the school with the hopes of encouraging him to continue playing high jump.

It is a wonderful story of complete strangers coming together, making long lasting friendships and a girl hoping the boy she loves goes back to do what loves.

3. Akumu-Chan

Akumu-chan is a science fiction/ comedy J-drama, following the story of Mutoi Ayami and Koto Yuiko. Mutoi Ayami is known to be a dedicated and hardworking teacher, however, no one knows that her public character is a facade. Ayami does not feel genuinely for others and she doesn’t believe in love or trust. She doesn’t like to be involved in situations that seem troublesome or require her to take responsibility. All of this changes when she meets her new student, Koto Yuiko, a young girl who can predict the future through the dreams she sees in her sleep.

This drama was very entertaining and I enjoyed watching Koto Yuiko and Ayami’s adventures. This is a family drama, with amazing visuals and it didn’t hurt to have the actor/singer Gackt, he is amazing in this drama. You will not be disappointed.

4. Atashinchi no Danshi

Do you guys see a trend here? All of the J-dramas I watch are comedy or romance, well I do watch serious ones, occasionally.

Atashinchi no Danshi follows the story of a homeless 20 year old girl, Chisato, her mother passed away due to illness and since then she desperately tries to escape the huge debt her father left her. One day when she least expects it she meets Okura Shinzo, the owner of a huge toy company and he rescues her by paying off her debt. In return, Shinzo asks Chisato to marry him for paying off her debt. He offers her a condition to stay married to him for a month to take care of him while he is ill, that way she doesn’t have to pay back her father’s debt. However, in a month he passes away and Chisato finds out that there are more conditions to follow, that include her moving into his mansion and trying to bring back together his six sons.

I know what you are thinking, “What is this? It’s ridiculous”, I had the same feelings when I started watching the show, but afterwards I got used to it and I really enjoyed it. The trailer I’m sharing has no subtitles, sorry everyone, this was all I could find.

5. Proposal Daisakusen (Operation Love)

Here we go again, another romantic J-drama to introduce in my top 5 list!

Proposal Daisakusen follows the story of Ken Iwase who attends Rei Yoshida (his childhood friend) wedding. Ken is not the best at expressing his feeling and realizes a bit too late that he is in love with her. Ken wishes that things could’ve been done differently and at that moment a fairy appears who grants his wish. Ken goes back in time to try and make things different.

I love this show because the moral of the story is very good and it teaches you that you need to take action, so you won’t have regrets later on life.

If you do watch J-dramas, please let me know what is your favorite and one that you are currently watching.

Music Monday! Week 54.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Music Monday! Today I will be sharing another foreign music video by Boa ft. m-flo called “Bump, Bump”.

Let’s get started  with a short background information about both musicians! Boa is a South Korean singer and also called the Queen of Korean Pop. Boa was discovered by SM Entertainment, after two years of training Boa made her debut in 2000. Boa is multilingual in Japanese, English,  Mandarin Chinese and of course along with her native Korean. Boa has released numerous Japanese and Korean singles, as well as  an English album in 2009. Throughout her career, Boa sold sold over 10 million records and has six consecutive number one albums on the Oricon Japanese music charts. Boa is my favorite Korean artist and I highly recommend checking out her music, if you are interested in listening to songs in a foreign language. I will also share the song that introduced me to Boa music, the name of the song is “Every Heart”.

Now that I’ve introduced to you Boa, coming up next is m-flo. M-flo is a Japanese hip-hop group consisting of producer Dj Taku Takahashi and rapper Verbal. M-flo are considered as iconic and influential hip-hop producers throughout Asia, they are pretty awesome.

Enjoy and let me know what you think about the songs in the comments box below.

Lifestyle Sundays! Life’s Simple Pleasures.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Lifestyle Sundays! Have any of you read the book “Book of Awesome” by Neil Pasricha? If you haven’t, it is a book you should own in your book collection. Neil Pasricha shares with us a lengthy list of life’s simple pleasures. A few examples of these simple pleasures from the book are staring out at calm water, perfectly toasted toast, the first scoop out of a jar of peanut butter and the list goes on and on.

We live in a fast paced environment, bombarded with many responsibilities and worries. This makes us forget how lucky we were to have certain things in our lives and how these simple pleasures do make a difference. I have got to say I am guilty of forgetting these simple things because I feel overwhelmed by life’s daily tasks. I certainly hope I’m not the only one who feels this way. So one day when I was walking home from work, I got an idea to write my own version of Neil Pasricha’s book as a blog post. I will be sharing a few of the little things in life that make me happy and hopefully some of you are going to relate.

Let’s get started.

1. The smell of freshly cut grass. I love it because it smells fresh, I definitely need this kind of scented candle.

2. Waiting in line for a long time and then someone decides to leave. I am not the most patient person and I hate waiting in line for a long time, so when someone decides to leave I immediately think “Yesss, I’m one step closer to the finish line”.

3. Drinking water on a hot summer day. I get dehydrated very quickly when it’s hot outside and that first drop water in my mouth makes me feel so relieved.

4. Jumping into bed after a long day. Ahh, that moment when you take a shower, put on your pjs and jump into bed is the best. I love to hug my pillow, get a good book, relax and eventually fall asleep.

5. Flipping through the channels and seeing your favorite movie on TV. I get so excited when that happens, especially when it’s an old favorite movie. For example, one day I came across “The Parent Trap” (1998) and it is one my favorite childhood movies.

6. The sound of rain falling on your window. It’s evening time and you are getting ready for bed, while you are getting ready you hear rain drops falling on your window. You get in bed and just listen to the rain, before you know it you are fast asleep. I love rain

7. Getting home before your phone battery dies. Alright, this one is very important guys because I need to listen to music while I’m outside. On those days when my phone battery dies after I get home is my lucky day.

8. When you smile at someone and they smile back. I like to smile when I see people and when they smile back, it makes my day.

9. When you are in line to pay for your groceries and someone offers you to go ahead of them. That usually happens when I have less items than the other person, nevertheless it is a nice gesture to let me pass before them.

10. Food samples at COSTCO. Oh come on, don’t tell me I’m the only who loves those? A week ago I went to COSTCO and had a bunch of their samples, it’s nice to have a snack while you shop.

11. Catching the bus on time. I have to rush in the morning to get to my bus because I have a hard time getting out of bed, so sometimes I miss it. However, those days when I manage to get to the bus stop two minutes before it comes is a good start to my day.

12. Coming to an air conditioned home after a hot summer day. I don’t hate summer, but I hate the heat wave that comes with it. Luckily, I get the chance to cool off at home with the AC. Thank God, for air conditioners 🙂

13. Getting your food order faster than you expected. When I’m hungry the only thing on my mind is to get my food as fast as possible. I love it when I get my food is brought t to me quickly.

14. Hearing the birds chirping in the morning. Hearing those little guys sing is music to my ears.

15. The moment the movie starts in the movie theater. Finally the other movie trailers are over and it is time for the movie you’ve been waiting for to begin.

16. The smell of books. Ok so this one was listed in Neil Pasricha’s book, but I definitely relate to this point. I love the smell of a book when you open it for the first time.

17. The first cherry blossom tree of the year. Growing up, my favorite part about Spring has always been the cherry blossom trees. They are so beautiful, I can’t help but get excited every year when I see the first cherry blossom tree of Spring.

18. The smell of BBQ. That mouth watering smell is the best, I love BBQ because it bring people together to enjoy each others company while eating good food.

19. Hearing your favorite song at a store. I was at the grocery store recently and I heard one of my favorite songs, let’s just say I was jamming out a little bit.

20. Lazy Days. Who doesn’t love lazy days? Lounging around in your pjs and not worrying about being somewhere later on in the day. I turn those kind of days into a pamper day and relax.

21. Popping bubble wrap. As a child I used to love popping bubble wrap and to this day I still have the habit of doing this.

22. Doing your winger eyeliner perfectly. Let me tell you, it is a big struggle, but on days when I actually do it right I feel relieved.

23. Finding your favorite item on sale. I love a good bargain, so when I find an item I want and it is already on sale, I am a happy girl.

24. The moment a concert begin. The moment you’ve been waiting for since buying the tickets, seeing your favorite musician finally go on stage. Best feeling ever.

25. The feeling of sand on your feet. Going to the beach is always fun, playing beach volleyball and running bare foot on the warm sand is awesome.

26. Big crowds enjoying music festivals together. Music does bring people together and it wonderful to see that. Last year I went a festival and there was a violist by name of Dr. Draw, people were dancing together and having fun. It was lovely sight and I want to see it often.

27. Getting a haircut and walking out of the hair-salon feeling like a star. A new hairdo puts smile on my face and I mean come on, your hair being that perfect can only happen after going to the salon (for me at least) haha.

28. Stargazing. I don’t think many people do this, but stargazing is a nice to clear your mind when you don’t want to think anything else.

29. Long walks at the park. I love going for a walk at the park, enjoying the weather and nature.

30. My followers. I appreciate each and everyone of you! You guys inspire me, make me smile and your kind comments light up my day. Thank you 🙂

A Glimpse Of My Life! Update Post.

Hello everyone,

I was thinking for a while and I came to the conclusion that I have never written an update post where basically chat with you guys. So today is the day when I write my first update post and Itell you all about my weekend shenanigans.

It’s Victoria Day weekend here in Canada and I couldn’t be happier, I work with children and it can be very tiring. So the longer my weekends can be, the better! When it comes to long weekends, I never plan anything major and I like to keep it low key. However, for this long weekend I wanted to do something special and visit some places in Toronto that I haven’t visited before. I have mentioned this before, but I was born in Bulgaria, Sofia and I’ve been living in Canada for 12 years. You would think that living here for so long I would’ve visited pretty much all of the famous tourist spots. Wrong! This year I decided to change that, so I went to the Distillery District and on boat cruise. I really, really enjoyed both outings and of course I took pictures to share on my blog.

Let’s start with the Distillery District, but first let me tell you a little bit about its history. The Distillery District was formerly known as Gooderham and Worts, the largest distiller of alcoholic beverages in Canada. In 2003, the district was introduced as a place for arts, entertainment and culture. The Distillery District is not that big, but what I loved about it was the Victorian-era architecture. I am a huge fan this era and I felt so great being surrounded by these beautiful buildings. There was a market outside and people were selling variety of products such as jewelry, paintings, sweets, cds, clothes and so much more. Here are some pictures from the District.

This is the entrance to the District, it was a chilly day, but that didn’t stop people from coming and having fun.

editedThe markets at the Distillery District are awesome, my favorite table at the market was the one in this picture. At first, I thought these were real cupcakes, but they are actually soaps. It is so pretty and colorful.

There were many unique shops, but I really liked the furniture store. They had a lot of retro furniture and my favorite item was the type writer. I honestly wanted to buy everything in that store!

Since my friend visited the Distillery District a few times, she was basically my tour guide. She took me to a chocolate store and as soon as I walked inside, I was sucked in by the chocolate smell. I turned into a giddy child and I wanted to buy every chocolate I saw, they had a huge selection. I also got to see a man using a melangeur that crushes the nibs of the cocoa beans into a rich brown paste called chocolate liquor.

This shop was inside a small shopping centre and the sold variety of foods such as sandwiches, gelato and sweets. Look at those cupcakes, they look divine lol. I’m not a huge fan of cupcakes, but these look delicious.

This was inside the shopping centre, I loved the architecture!

Now let’s move on to the second portion of my weekend adventures on the boat cruise. I was browsing on google trying to find fun activities to do on the weekend and I came across Mariposa cruises. I read reviews and their deals, so I was sold and went the next day to buy two tickets for me and my mom. The cruise was great and I really enjoyed seeing Toronto from the water. The tickets I bought were for brunch, so we boarded the boat at 11:30am and finished the tour at 2:00pm. The boat went around some of the islands and it was neat to see these places. The food was delicious, let’s just say I went for second and thirds (I was very hungry lol). I’ve been wanting to go on a boat tour for a while and I’m glad I finally did it. Here are some pictures.

Music Monday! Week 53.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Music Monday! Just as promised, today I will be sharing two music videos. They are “It’s Gonna Be Me” by N Sync and “Slave To The Rhythm” Micheal Jackson hologram performance from last night’s Billboard Awards.

I’ve been listening to a lot of 90s teen pop songs and last week I started listening to N Sync’s “No Strings Attached” album. “It’s Gonna Be Me” was and still is my favorite song from the album, I remember I was obsessed with the music video. The song debuted number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks. I thought the music video was very creative and most of all I loved the choreography. Back then I used to watch music videos by Britney, Backstreet Boys and N Sync and memorize the dance for fun. The 90s teen pop era was definitely a huge part of my childhood and to this day I still love it.

Let’s move on to the second music video for this week’s segment, the Michael Jackson hologram performance at the Billboard Music Awards last night. Even though Michael Jackson is no longer here, him and his music continue to live on. I was very impressed by the hologram because it looked very realistic, as if he was really there. Technology has come really far these days, especially in the music industry. By far this was the highlight performance of the entire show, as for the song, well it will be on replay for a while.

Enjoy and let me know what you think about the Michael Jackson hologram performance in the comments box below.

Friday Funday! Top 5 Lip Products.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Friday Funday and Happy Friday! I have decided to take a break from my usual tag posts and I am going start a new series called “My Top 5”. I will be sharing my top 5 favorites of anything from music to movies and fashion. Today’s post is about makeup, specifically lip products. I own more lip products then any other makeup product, so I thought it will be fun to share my top 5 favorites. I have pictures of me wearing the lip products, as well as pictures of lip product swatches. I put a number next to the colors that corresponds to the lip product ranking in this post. Please excuse the quality of the pictures, my actual camera did not work well, so I had to use my iPhone camera.

Let’s begin!

1. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain (Color – 025 Sweetheart Valentine)

Surprise, surprise, I have raved about this product in other posts, but this is truly the best lip product for me and it deserves to be at number one. Its long lasting formula is definitely a plus and it feels light on the lips. I do not need to reapply the color during the day and that deserves an A+ in my books.

2. Maybeline New York, Color Elixir (Color – 040 Vision in Violet)

I am not a fan of lip glosses because they are sheer and sticky. However, this product is a big exception because it not sheer and it is not super glossy. The best way to describe it is a lip stick in a liquid form. Good job Maybeline!

3. Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter (Color – 063 Wild Watermelon)

Revlon’s lip butters are one of my favorite because they feel light and smooth on the lips like a lip balm. In fact, I think the best way to describe this product is to call it a tinted lip balm, but a bit more pigmented. The only downfall of this product is that it can melt in warm weather, so if you carry it with you make sure to put it in a makeup bag.

4. Rimmel London, Apocalips Lip Lacquer.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the color name for this product because I ripped it off sticker when I was unwrapping the product. The best way to describe this color is a hot pink with a slight red undertone. A little does go a long way for this product, so make sure you put a little drop of color on your lips. I love this product because it doesn’t have the sheer lip gloss consistency, the color looks vibrant and pigmented.

IMG_7893 5. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick (Color – 460 Pearl Blushing)

Yes, I am sharing another Revlon product because I truly think that their lip products are awesome. This is the first Revlon lip product I purchased and I like it because it has some shimmer in it and it is subtle. I wear this color on days when I wanted to tone it down and not use my other intense lip colors. The only downfall is that it rubs off easily when you eat, but I am willing to put up with that because I will always repurchase this lip stick.
