The World of J-pop: J-pop Week. (#10)

Hello everyone,

J-pop week is finally here and I am so excited, are you excited too? This week up to Sunday (July 20, 2014), I will be posting my top 10 J-pop hits. I have been a huge fan of J-pop since I was 15, so I thought it is about time I made a special Japanese music segment on this blog. The song choices for this week and ranking them was a difficult job because there are so many amazing songs. However, I had to exclude many, but that’s ok because I can share the ones I left out on my “International Wonderland” segment. The ranking decision for the song picks is based on: chart performance, song sales, certifications and awards that were won.

Now without any further ado, the music video I chose as number 10 is “Days” by FLOW. FLOW is a Japanese rock band that made their debut in 1998, there are five members in the group: Koshi (vocalist), Take (guitarist), Keigo (vocalist), Goto (bassist)and Iwasaki (drummer). Koshi and Take are brothers who created the group and later on they recruited more members. The band has released many songs as opening themes for animes and video games, for example Naruto and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (I don’t play video games,so don’t ask if it’s a good game because I wouldn’t know lol). Their single “Days” is the opening theme for the very popular anime, “Eureka 7”. The upbeat rhythm and happy vibe of the song will make you smile and dance (well at least it makes me want to do that).

Enjoy 🙂

ENGLISH LYRICS TRANSLATION

The changing seasons color the streets
Ambiguous time passes by
I was gazing up to the tear colored sky
I push aside the waves of sadness

My dreams are far away
Even though I could see them quite clearly
I lost sight of the important things

The promise that we made that day was broken and scattered
Pieces of passionate and short lived memories
Even if I wake up from the dream that we both had
I won’t forget these feelings, ever

The wind blows through the faded landscape
And my memories softly return

Even if I walk down that familiar road, I can’t go back
My first lie, my final words

My pretending to be strong, I misrepresent my feelings
An answer from the passed seasons
So I understand that after all
I can’t do anything about it, it seems futile
After all, I just answer my own question every time
These conditions just keep building up
On this long night, the street lights shine on the stillness
My memories are kaleidoscopic
My mind starts to race round and round
So many times, I forgot that I try to cling
To fleeting memories

A merry-go-round of sadness
A melody slow dance at midnight

The promise that we made that day was broken and scattered
Pieces of passionate and short lived memories
Even if I wake up from the dream that we both had
I won’t forget these feelings, ever
The days of my memories shine down on this moment…

See you tomorrow for the next J-pop music video, thanks for stopping by my blog!
