I am little behind on reviewing this song, but I am finally going to talk about Sia’s new single, “Elastic Heart” and share my thoughts about the music video. In this video Maggie Ziegler and Shia Labeouf are performing an emotional contemporary routine.
In a Twitter post, Sia wrote:
The two warring “Sia” self states.
There are many interpretations of this music video and the story behind it, I think this video is about Sia’s old and new self. She is fighting her past i.e. addiction and any other heavy emotional situation and her new self tries break free. It almost seems like the cage represents Sia’s brain and the her inner struggle inside her head. In the end when Maggie tries to escape Shia’s grasp and that may represent that she is not quite free yet and she has to work on her issues more. Recently, there have been a number of people who are against this video and call it sexual and of a pedophile nature. In the music video, Shia and Maddie wear skin colored clothing and their dance involved a lot physical touch. However, as I was watching the music video, the pedophile interpretation did not cross my mind even once. I was focusing on the choreography and the raw emotion behind something heavy that Shia and Maddie try to show with their dance. I did not see anything sexual between them and I can tell from Shia’s expression and that the way her danced with Maddie, it doesn’t cross his mind to be inappropriate. He is an actor and he is acting out a character Sia had in mind for the music video, so to all haters, calm down. This is art, not porn, so get your mind out of the gutter.
This is my personal thought about this music video, as for the song, I thought it was a work of art! Bravo Sia!

Welcome back to Funday Friday, the segment that brings you fun posts to enjoy!
Today I want to do The Throwback Tag because I reminiscent about my childhood often and I thought this would be the perfect tag post. So sit back and enjoy 🙂
1. What year were you born in?
I was both in 1989, 80s baby wooo!
2. Do you have any pictures of yourself from when you were younger? If you do, show them.
Sure thing, I left my baby pictures back in Bulgaria, but I’ll share one of my favorites from when I was four years old.
3. What TV shows did you grow up watching?
Good ones, haha, but jokes aside I watched Tom and Jerry, The Jetsons, The Flinstones, Powerpuff Girls, Sailor Moon, The Pink Panther, The Looney Tunes series, Mickey Mouse, Animaniacs and the list just goes on and on.
4. What did you want to be when you grow up and do you still want to be that?
Many things and now I don’t want to be any of those anymore because I have my chosen career. I wanted to be a mathematician (that’s laughable because I am horrible at math), an artist (I can’t even draw, but I am good at graphics design so I guess I’m artistic in a way), a dentist (I get grossed out easily, so that’s out of the question), a bank teller and a teacher. I realized later on in that teaching is not for me and I will never enjoy it, that’s why I chose to be a child and youth care counsellor, helping children in need is a rewarding job. Now I just have to figure out how to satisfy my creative side and make that a career too. Why not have to careers, right? 🙂 I have a lot of ambitions.
5. Show a video of yourself when you were younger.
I actually don’t have any, my family was not the type to record videos of me as a child, instead they will photograph me.
6. What were your favorite toys to play with?
Barbies and stuffed animals, I would play with those for hours and hours. I also loved to collect the toys from Mcdonalds Happy Meal, those were the best.
7. What’s the most embarrassing thing that you can remember doing?
Ok I have two, but I’ll share the first one only because it is less embarrassing! I was probably in fourth or fifth grade and I was hurrying to get to my next class (btw this was still in Bulgaria). I was running and as I reached the stairs I tripped and fell down the stairs with my head facing downwards. When I got to the bottom I felt a bit disoriented, it all happened so fast and when I turned around every student was looking at me. I didn’t think, my body just moved on its own and I sprinted up the stairs to the end of the hallway. I don’t think I’ve ever ran so fast in my life, I was glad to have escaped the situation before anyone made a comment lol. Now when I look back on this moment, it makes me laugh 🙂
8. Read something you wrote when you were in Kindergarten.
Unfortunately, I don’t have anything saved from when I was Kindergarten.
9. Three songs you loved to listen to as a child.
Baby One More Time by Britney Spears, I Want It That Way by Backstreet Boys and It’s Gonna Be Me by NSync. Who else misses the late 90s teen pop era? I certainly do 🙂
10. What was one funny thing you dressed up as for Halloween when you were younger?
Halloween was not celebrated in Bulgaria, therefore I never dressed up for Halloween as a child.
11. Tell a funny story of something you remember happening when you were young.
It seems like all of my funny stories revolve around me being clumsy and falling or just being a mischievous child. One funny story I have was when I was the cottage and I was swinging on those swings that you lay on and I ended up flipping over and falling right on my face. I am actually laughing as I’m writing this and the funny thing about this was that my loose tooth fell out. My neighborhood witnessed the whole thing and congratulating me on my lose tooth. LOL!
12. Are there any special things you’ve kept from when you were a child?
I have kept all of my stuffed animals because each one reminds of something special, but majority of the things I have from my childhood are still in Bulgaria. However, I have a very special heart locket that I got on my 10th birthday, it is my favorite item from my childhood.
13. What was something weird you used to do as a child?
Haha, um, well when I was a five years old I had a huge obsession with The Lion King, so I would pretend I’m a lion. I guess I consider it weird because I used to tell my mom that I wanted to be born a lion LOL. She was a bit concerned, but after watching the movie a million times, I eventually got over my dream to become a lion. Children have the weirdest ideas and also the wittiest things to say!
14. What’s the scariest thing you remember that happened to you when you were younger?
Oh, nothing can top this, absolutely nothing! I was at home by myself, my grandma went to my next door neighbor for a few minutes and I decided to check out what was playing on TV. I stumbled upon the movie, Chucky, I had no idea it was scary because it was the beginning of the movie. To make this long story short, I watched the whole movie and I was absolutely traumatized. I ran to my room, picked up my toys, threw them in my closet and started yelling “I know you can talk, so you better start now!” I was freaked out for a very, very, very long time and to this day I hate any horror movies. I did try to attempt and watch Walking Dead and that traumatized me too. Sorry peeps, any movie with gruesome monsters is not for me.
15. How is the world now different from how it was like when you were a child?
Children know a lot more and do a lot less because of technology. I love technology and there is no doubt about that, but I am careful not to become a hermit at home behind the computer. I am a hermit on Sundays when I have my lazy day, you need to be lazy at least one day of the week. When I was a child, I didn’t have the electronic devices kids have today and I would entertain myself at the park with my friends. Maybe it’s an old school mentality, but I believe a childhood is made outside and playing with the other kids. One of my best moments from my childhood was when I went to the park, I have soooooo many stories. Nowadays, children have cellphones, tablets and DS! I think my future children will hate me, but I will not give them any of those things until they are in high school…except for maybe the DS to play with on the weekends (yes, I have my parenting all figured out for the future). I would want my children to feel the joys of being outside, they will not make any special memories if they play video games all day. I work with children, so I know some of them do that during the weekend. Also children have access to everything because of the Internet and that is not always a good thing.
Also the world seems different than when I was child because it has become more violent. As a child I would walk home from school (back in Bulgaria) and not worry about anything happening to me. Nowadays, it doesn’t feel as safe anymore and that’s sad because I want my future children to experience the security I felt when I was growing up. I guess I want the best and most secure life for my children and any child in world 🙂
There is a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place where colors are brighter, the air softer, and the morning more fragrant than ever again. ~Elizabeth Lawrence
I hope you guys enjoyed this post, please share with me one of your most fond childhood memory 🙂
I want to share with you one final thing and that a video of the ending of the evening kids program in Bulgaria. This brings back sooooo many memories, there are days when I miss being a child, but look back on these videos and it’s like I’m a kid again.
Do you need some Monday cheer? I know Mondays can be the most hated day of the week, but it doesn’t have to be that bad. Yesterday my friend shared with me the new Maroon 5 music video, “Sugar” and I thought it was the cutest thing ever. If you haven’t heard about this yet, Maroon 5 crashed in on a few wedding ceremonies and performed his new song. I love the idea of this music video, if that happened at my wedding it would be the greatest surprise in my life (next to meeting my pop idol, Britney Spears). This music video is just filled with so much happiness and positive energy.
Wow it’s been such a long time since I posted anything for this segment and to my readers who follow it and wait for me to share a foreign music video, I apologize for the delay. Life has been crazy busy lately, but I am back and I will begin to share a song every week. The song I’ll be sharing today is “So Much” (I hope I got the translation right) and it is by a girl group called DREAM.
Here is a brief history about the group, DREAM debuted in 2000 under the record label avextrax, but since then there have been many changes to the group member line-up. The group debuted in 2000 with three girls Matsumuro Mai, Tachibana Kana and Hasebe Yu. In 2002, Matsumuro Mai left and DREAM became an eight member group. The member line-up continued to change throughout the years and in mid-2007 the group’s name was changed to DRM. After many members leaving, DREAM has become a four member group with Shizuka, Aya, Ami, and Erie.
This new song they released is a beautiful ballad and their voices sing with so much emotion, that’s what I love about ballads. Enjoy and let me know what you think of this song and video! Also avextrax rarely posts full music videos, so do be surprised when the music video suddenly ends.
I hope everyone is have a relaxing Friday evening 🙂
Today I will be sharing a song that used to be obsessed with a long time ago and I still like it to this day. The song I’ll be sharing today is “Misery Business” by Paramore! “Misery Business” was released in 2007 debuting at number three on the Billboard US Alternative Songs and it was also considered the band’s breakthrough song!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, it definitely brings back a lot of memories from my high school days 🙂
I have talked about liking Japan and Korean music a lot on my blog, so I am guessing that you guys think I have an Asian obsession. You might be right about that, so that’s why today I have chosen to answer the Asian Obsession Tag questions. If any of you had any questions for me as to why I love the Asian culture so much, all of your answers will be answered today. So sit back, grab a cup of tea and enjoy today’s post.
Let’s begin 🙂
1. What is your favorite drama ?
My favorite drama is Hana Yori Dango aka Boys Over Flowers. There are many versions of this drama, but I’ve personally watched the Japanese, Korean and Mandarin ones. I love each version of the story because they are unique in their own way and the story is presented differently in each version. The drama is about Makino Tsukushi who comes from a poor family, but goes to an elite school. Her family gives every last penny they have in order for Makino to get the best education. She hopes to get through her high school days quietly without attracting any attention to herself from her peers. One day her life is completely turned around when she runs into the F4. They are four boys that come from very rich families and in a way run the school. They do as they wish and the owners of the school do not say anything because they receive a lot of money from their parents. If you get on their bad side, the F4 put a red notice in people’s lockers and publicly humiliate the individual (usually by beating them up and etc). One day Makino’s friend Sakurako ends up being bullied by the leader of the group, Domyouji Tsukasa. Makino defends her friend, but Tsukasa is not thrilled about it and leaves a red notice in her locker. Long story short, he bullies her for a while, but after he starts developing feelings for her. You have to watch the drama to see why, but I love it and I highly recommend it to someone who wants to start watching Asian dramas.
2. What was the first drama you ever watched ?
The first one I ever watched that made cry like a baby is Koizora (a Japanese drama)! It’s a sad love story about a boy (Hiro) who falls in love with a girl (Mika), but later on he finds out he is sick and he is dying. This drama, Titanic and The Fault In Our Stars are the only movies that made me cry like a baby, my face was literally wet with tears. I don’t know why I watch these sad movies, but I’m hopeless romantic and I’ll watch any love story.
3. What is your favorite movie ?
Shinobi Heart Under Blade, no doubt about it! I like it because it is more of a historic Asian movie and it is about ninjas, which I like. The movie is about two ninja clans, Iga and Koga who have fought for four hundred years. They are no ordinary ninja clans, they are ninjas that have supernatural powers! Gennosuke and Oboro are from one of those clans and they have fallen in love with each other, but they both had enough of the senseless feud and wants peace. However, Tokugawa Ieyasu, the ruler of Japan deliberately stirs up their feud and invites the clans to fight in a duel to the death. Kind of like the Hunger Games, but this is between powerful supernatural ninjas. It was a dramatic movie and I really enjoyed it!
4. What was the first movie you watched?
The first movie I watched is Bokura ga Ita, the first one and its sequel as well. The movies are based on the anime, but I’ve never watched it. It is romantic story about Nanami Takahashi who falls in love with Yano Motoharu who is the most popular boy in her class. Yano returns Nanami’s feelings and they start dating, however his past haunts their relationship and things start to become complicated. It was a dramatic love story to be exact and it made me feel frustrated with Yano and some of his actions. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this movie, I eagerly watched the second movie to find out if they will end up together for good. You”l have to watch both movies to find if they do because I’m not going to tell you 😉
5. Favorite Asian Singer/ Group/Band ?
I have so many but a few are BoA, Ayumi Hamasaki, AAA (Attack All Around) this is a Japanese pop band, EXO, KARA, Wonder Girls, BIGBANG, FLOW, Namie Amuro and list goes on and on and on.
6. Favorite Asian Music Video ?
That one really got me thinking, honestly I can’t choose only one because there are so many I like. However, my most recent favorite music video is “Overdose” by EXO! It is such a cool song and the music video is really cool with the special effect and the futuristic vibe it gives people.
7. Which Asian countries have you been to or what to go to?
I haven’t been to any yet, but the ones I would love to visit are Japan, Korea, China (Beijing and Hong Kong), Thailand and The Philippines.
8. Favorite Anime or Manga?
There so many animes I like, but a few are Inuyasha, Fullmetal Alchemist, Sailor Moon, Naruto, Kamisama Hajimemashita and many more. As for mangas, I like Naruto, Kamisama Hajimemashita, Hana Yori Dango, Ouran High School Host Club and etc. However, right now I don’t really watch anime or read manga anymore, as much as I did in high school. I kind miss that :S
9. Favorite Asian food?
I love ramen, Japanese style curry, sushi, bibmbap, tteokbokki (rice cake dish, it’s so yummy), dumplings, omurice and other delicious dishes.
10. How did your Asian obsession start?
Well it began before I started liking anime, I think I’m infatuated with countries with long histories, hence why I like Asia so much. Asia seems extra special to me, more interesting than other countries in the world (I’m being biased). Some people want to travel around Europe, I want to travel around Asia and I’m sure that will happen one day. Now back to the point, even though my interest in Asia began at an young age, anime is the biggest factor that made me even more interested in Asia. Anime made me want to learn more about Japan, anime also made me like Japanese music and Japanese movies/dramas. However, seven years ago I stopped watching anime, nevertheless my interest in Asian cultures grew. Now I appreciate these countries for their traditions, history and not only because anime is made in Japan. From my Japan obsession, I moved on to liking Korea, China and many more.
11. How has your obsession influenced your life?
My obsession has allowed me to be more open-minded, for example there used to be a time when I wouldn’t even look at sushi. Now I eat everything and that also made me more accepting and willing to try other foreign dishes. The second way my Asian obsession influenced me is by making me interested to learn another language. I’ve been wanting to learn Japanese for the past four years and it is an exciting journey. I want to speak more language and if I learn this one I will be fluent in three: Bulgarian, English and Japanese. How cool is that 🙂
12. Are you interested in any Asian languages?
I pretty much answered this question above lol, but yes I would love to learn Japanese and eventually learn how to read it too. It will be a challenging process, but I am ready to start studying. Learning another language is fun, don’t you agree? 🙂
I hope you guys enjoyed this post, I certainly had a lot of fun answering these questions. If you love Asia as much as I do, I tag you to do this tag as well. In fact, I want to tag a fellow blogger @genkinahito do this tag too. Have fun 🙂
I’ll see you guys soon with my more posts! Have a lovely and restful weekend.
I was thinking of different music videos to share with you all and I decided to post one of my favorite songs, “All For You” by Janet Jackson. There is not doubt that she is one of the musicians that has inspired since I was six years old. She can dance, sing and act, she can do it all and she is inspirational. I love this music video because it seems so carefree, now without further ado, here is today’s Music Monday song.
