The BBMAs were quite a treat last night, from Britney Spears nostalgic medley to Madonna and Stevie Wonder’s tribute to Prince.
It’s safe to say that this is the first award show I really enjoyed in a very long time, for the past few year music award shows felt dull to me. I think it helped that every performance was at its scheduled time and the awards ended right on time.
In case you missed the BBMAs, don’t fret because I got you covered.
The one and only Queen of Pop opened the BBMAs with a 7 minute medley of her greatest hits. Not only did she look amazing on stage, but she also showed the audience she can still put on a great show.
She kicked off the BBMAs with her single “Work B*tch”, then launched into her next track “Womanizer”. Other tracks she performed were “I love Rock n’ Rock”, “Breathe on Me” and personal favorite of mine, “Slave 4 You”.
Britney also took home the Millennium Award in honor of her lengthily career.Congratulations!!!
Many YouTubers are slowly making their way into the mainstream media, Troy Sivan first debuted in 2014 with his single “Happy Little Pill” since then his popularity is slowly rising. Last night, he performed his single, “Youth”. It was surreal moment for Troy, as you could clearly see the pure joy he expressed to be on stage. One his Twitter he wrote, “I really mean it, I am sobbing”.
Lindsey Stirling also had her moment, as she performed along the legendary Celine Dion. Lindsey first auditioned on Americas Got Talent, after being eliminated, she began making YouTube videos. She films creative videos showing her skills as a violinist and dancer.
Celine brought the audience to tears with her speech, talking about her children and the aftermath of her husbands death. Another touching moment for Celine was when she received her award from son, Rene-Charles.
Celine Dion was honored with the Icon Award for her lifestime achivements, after performing a cover of Queen’s song “Show Must Go On”.
Kesha will bounce back!
The legal battle between Kesha and Dr. Luke has been a turbulent time for the singer. Initially her performance was cancelled by Dr. Luke and her record label, Kemosabe Records (fearing she will use her time on stage to address her legal battle).
Kesha eventually got her wish to stand on that stage, while performing Bob Dylan’s 1964 song “It Ain’t Me Babe”. To anyone who criticized her vocal abilities, last night she proved everyone wrong!
Adele took home a win for Top Billboard 200 Album, despite her absence from last night’s awards, she didn’t forget to leave a little something for her fans and introduce her new MV “Send My Love (to Your New Lover)”.
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani shared the stage on Sunday night, performing a duet together of “Go ahead and Break My Heart”. When those two were on stage, they only had eyes for each other.
Justin Bieber kept his performance low key, but made up for it with stunning…almost magical stage effects, while performing medley of singles “Company” and “Sorry”. Bieber did not seem too excited throughout the show, channeling an icy exterior. Later, Bieber stated “I don’t feel good at award shows”, that is expected after Justin posted a lengthily Instagram post of why he will no longer take pictures with fans. I guess fame can be frustrating sometimes.
P!nk got us flying high last night with her performance of “Just Like Fire” from the new Alice in Wonderland movie. There is no one better at acrobatic stunts than P!nk, watching her performance gave me flashback of her 2010 Grammy performance. What about you?
Ariana Grande is presenting a more mature side of her and her latest music! She started off with an electric keyboard solo and then jumped into her new single “Into You”. As usual, Ariana’s vocals were electrifying.
Ariana wasn’t the only who had electrifying vocals, Rihanna belted her song “Love On Brain” from the Anti album.
Last but certainly not least, is Madonna’s tribute to the legendary Prince! Madonna tamed down her image for her tribute, singing “Nothing Compares 2 You”, as photos of the late Prince appeared behind her. Shortly after, Stevie Wonder joined Madonna singing “Purple Rain”, while the arena turned purple in the Prince’s honor.
Other stars who performed last night were: Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas ft. Tove Lo, DNCE, Megan Trainor, Fifth Harmony ft. Ty Dolla $ign, The Go-Go’s and Shawn Mendes.
