F.R.I.E.N.D.S 20th Anniversary!

On this day in 1994, the first episode of Friends made its debut on the big screen and our lives changed forever. Alright, maybe they didn’t change, but they became funnier thanks to six friends. Monica, Chandler, Rachel, Ross, Phoebe and Joey have put a smile on my face for years and made me want to have friends like them. I started watching the show in 1996 and I believe I was around seven years old. I have laughed so much until my stomach started to hurt. So today I decided to share with you my top 5 favorite ‘Friends’ moments, there are countless of great moments, so tough choices has to be made.

Let’s begin!

5. The Nap Partners.

You’ve got to admit that this one is pretty funny, especially when the gang finally catches them. I also find it funny when Joey tries to persuade Ross to do it again, gotta love Joey guys.

4. Halloween Party.

I loved the Halloween episode, everyone dressed up made it feel so festive and they were very funny. The icing on the cake was Ross and Chandler arm wrestling, Chandler sure is a sneaky one making everyone think he actually won. Poor Ross!

3. Joey Speaks French.

Correction, he spoke gibberish, but that was the funniest episode for me. I remember laughing hysterically when I watched him attempt to speak French, absolutely hilarious.

2. He’s Her Lobster!

Wasn’t this moment we were all waiting for when Ross declared that he loved Rachel, but then Rachel was dating Marco and before that getting over her broken “marriage”. After she broke up with Marco, Ross started dating and all of us were going crazy waiting for them to become a couple. So when they finally did, we all rejoiced! Rachel and Ross=Forever.

1. Paper, Snow, A Ghost!

You guys might think, “Really? That’s your number one choice?”, guys this is really funny to me. I don’t know why, but I burst into laughter more than when I watch the ‘Pivot’ scene (which is great btw).

I hope you enjoy this post and please share with me your favorite ‘Friends’ moments!

See you soon!

4. Don’t Worry, Be Happy – Bobby McFerrin with Robin Williams.

Bobby McFerrin’s song hit features Robin Williams and Bill Irwin goofing around and doing silly dances. This brought a huge smile to my face and I hope it did on yours too.

3. Blame Canada.

In 2000, South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker asked Robin Williams to sing “Blame Canada” from the movie “South Park: Bigger, Longer Uncut”. As expected, Robin Williams delivered a memorable Academy Awards moment.

2. Dinosaur, No Meat, Big Feet – Mrs. Doubtfire.

Mrs. Doubtfire was a huge part of my childhood, growing up my parents divorced when I was 8 years old, so this movie gave me comfort. I realized that there are other children with divorced parents, so I felt better. To this day I will always look back on this movie as something wonderful, I loved this scene and this had take a spot on this list.

1. Prince Ali – Aladdin.

My Favorite and most memorable Robin Williams musical moment, his voice acting is one of a kind, but who knew back then that he can also sing. Mr. William you will miss greatly, Hollywood lost a true talent.

Music Monday! Week 51.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Music Monday, so all day today at work I was humming old school songs. Specifically, Britney Spears songs and today I want to share with you one of my favorites from her first album. I honestly love every song from her first record, but “Born To Make You Happy” seems very relaxing to me. It is beautiful ballad, the song was released on December 6, 1999. The single received a lot of praise and that it would be an early classic and it peaked at number one in many countries.

I remember how much I loved the music video and choreography, this song is definitely a classic. Share with me what is your favorite Britney Spears song, if I had narrow it down to three songs, they would be 1) Hit Me Baby One More Time 2) Oops I Did It Again and of course 3) Born To Make You Happy.

Enjoy 🙂

p.s. Be on the lookout for my review post of Avril Lavigne’s new single “Hello Kitty”, it will be posted this week.

Music Monday! Week 50.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Music Monday, today I’ll be sharing with you a brand new band I discovered. I always get excited when I discover a new band because I’m embarking on a new musical journey, so to speak. I start to listen to the artist and think “Wow this catchy, I need to listen more”, then I watch live performances to see the artist’s singing ability during a live performance and finally when I’m obsessed, I try to find tickets to see the band or artist live. Basically this is how I felt about this new band and to stop the suspense, I am talking about, Chvrches. I was initially drawn to the unique mix of an 80s sound and a bit of modern techno beat. I love unique bands and music, so this is definitely up my alley. While I was listening to their songs, I started to think of Daft Punk and Pink Floyd. This band gave me that particular vibe and I feel like they could be the modern day version of these classic bands.

Here is a little background information about this band, Chvrches are a Scottish electronic music band. The band consists of three members, Lauren Mayberry (lead vocalist), Iain Cook (synthesizer, guitar, bass, vocals) and Martin Doherty (sampler, synthesizer). The synthesizer part might be a new music term for some of you, it is basically an electronic music instrument that produces various sounds. This instrument is widely used in synthpop, which is a electro pop genre. This music genre became more popular in Japan and the United Kingdom. Chvrches released their studio album “The Bones Of What You Believe” on September 20, 2013.

The song I’ll share today is called is “Recover”.

Enjoy and let me know what you guys think of this new band.

See you soon!

Music Monday! Week 48.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Music Monday, brace yourselves everyone because I came across a very strange music find last week and I had to share it with you. I watch a very popular YouTube channel called TheFineBros and they post videos of kids/teens/youtubers/elders reacting to various viral videos. On this week’s episode of YouTubers React, they shared three music videos from the Japanese band called Babymetal.

Babymetal is Japanese band that mixes metal music and J-Pop together, which is referred to as KawaiiMetal or CuteMetal. I know what all of you are thinking right now, “what on Earth?” My thoughts were the same when I first watched the video and I am not a metal music fan, so it was kind of bizarre to listen to the music. The members of the group are Suzuka Nakamoto (su-metal), Moa Kikuchi (moametal) and Yui Mizuno (yuimetal), who are all in their early teens aging 14-16 years old. Personally, I am still feeling indecisive about this band because the thought of young girls singing metal music is very unusual and I am not sure I’m a fan of it either.

Before I tell you more about the band, I want to explain how the music industry works in Japan. In Japan, there are idols who range from ages 11-20, the girls are recruited by auditioning for a specific music records company. They have to showcase their singing and dancing abilities, when they are chosen, they have to train a short period of time and  make their debut. In other cases, there are existing groups that the girls join as the next generation. Japanese idols perform in a group for certain time period and when they get to a specific age, they have to graduate from the group. Their plans after their graduation varies from going back to their normal lives or pursing a job in the entertainment industry i.e. being radio personality, television host or a model.

Let’s go back to Babymetal, I think the combination of metal and J-Pop makes me tolerate the metal part of the songs. However, I can’t decided if I like this music genre mashup, I admit that it is catchy. I like the originality and the risk that was taken when this band was created, but this kind of music will not accepted in the American music industry. First of all, metal music fans will completely reject it and the mix of the genres may not be accepted by American record companies. Despite this, I have one song I find catchy that I wanted to share, it is called “IINE (So Good)”. Let me warn you, the song begins with EDM beat, then it goes to rap, metal and back to EDM. I didn’t enjoy the rap part of the song because it seemed to be out of place, but I liked the EDM part because I love upbeat music i.e. techno/trance.

Here are the translated lyrics of the song:

Tick tack tick tack my heart beats.
I can’t stop this feeling running wild.
Tick tack tick tack my heart beats.
I can’t stop this feeling. I screamo.

[Hey, it’s my afternoon snack!]
[Wait. Wait. Wait. Don’t take it in advance of me!]
[[???]]
[[All yours are also mine.]]

I was left alone. I looked up the sky.
What a sentimental night!
I’ll go, driven by this feeling,
running away from the reality.

So good. So good.
The party under the night sky.
So good. So good.
I’ll go brilliant.
That for now, moshing up.
Taking little by little is impossible.

Yeah, yeah.
It’s too transcendental. It’s perfect.
A gal must have
a dream which is surely
super-chaotic.

Sway your head! Take off your glasses!
Swing your head! Take off your glasses!
Sway your head! Take off your glasses!
What a jammed, bursting, over-packed rucksack.
Take it off right now!

Yo! Yo! Yo! Yo!
[The microphone check. One, two. One, two.]
[Are you ready to mosh?]
Are you ready to mosh?
Put your fox sign up!
[It’s a fox sign, you know?]

[[It’s not a maloik sign but a fox sign.]]
[[Not a sign of the horns but a fox sign, you know.]]

Gyah!

I pledged to myself by linking my little fingers.
What a sentimental night!
I’ll go, driven by this feeling,
running away from the reality.

So good. So good.
The party under the night sky.
So good. So good.
I’ll go brilliant.
That for now, moshing up.
Taking little by little is impossible.

Yeah, yeah.
It’s too transcendental. It’s perfect.
A gal must have
a dream which is surely
super-chaotic.

[So good. So good.]
Yeah, yeah.
[So good. So good.]
Yeah, yeah.
[So good. So good.]
It’s super-chaotic.
Yeah, yeah.
[So good. So good.]
Yeah, yeah.
[So good. So good.]
Yeah, yeah.
[So good. So good.]
[So good. So good. So good. So good.]

Enjoy and please complete the poll below or write a comment to let me know what you think of the song!

Friday Funday! Top 10 Disney Songs.

Hello everyone,

As promised, here is part 2 of my Disney post and today I will share you my favorite Disney songs.

Let’s get started.

10. The Jungle Book – Bare Necessities

I love this song because it puts me in bright and happy mood, this song was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original song in 1967.

9.. Tale As Old As Time – Beauty and The Beast

I love ballad songs and this is the perfect ballad song for me, Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson vocals suit the song so well. The song won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song and Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media and Best Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

8. Mulan – Reflection

If I had to use one word to describe this song it is beautiful. I love it not only because of the melody and rhythm, but also because of its amazing lyrics. Staying true to yourself and not pretending to be someone else is a beautiful and inspiring message that this song conveys. I love the movie version of this song, as well as the Christina Aguilera version, they both are powerful and inspiring, the song was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

7. Strangers Like Me – Tarzan

This is another Disney movie soundtrack that impressed me and I love Phil Collins’s song contributions to this movie. However, the song that I love the most is “Strangers Like Me”, the guitar tune in this song is what won me over.

6. Under The Sea – Little Mermaid

I went to an aquarium in my city a few months ago and the entire the time, this song was playing in my head, lol. For me, this is the best song from The Little Mermaid, it won an Academy Award & Golden Globe award for Best Original Song and a Grammy Award for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or for Television and Best Recording for Children.

5. Let It Go – Frozen

Once again, here is a more recent Disney song and I love this one because of its powerful vocals. The song won an Academy Award for Best Original song.

4. Wish Upon A Star – Pinocchio

This song with a gentle melody is fitting for this wonderful Disney story, I remember when I was a child and I listened to the song, I felt very relaxed. The song won an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1940.

3. A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes – Cinderella

This song is part of my top 10 favorites because I absolutely love the message and lyrics. The message is “never stop dreaming”, I love how Disney finds a way to inspire young people with their movies and songs.

2. Aladdin – Prince Ali

Of course there will be an Aladdin song on this list, but I was torn between Prince Ali and Friend Like Me. However, I kept going back to Prince Ali and I absolutely love it. Robin Williams did an amazing job singing the song, but then again I do not expect anything less from someone as great as him.

1. Circle of Life – Lion King

Surprise, surprise, actually this should not be a surprise to you because as I said in my last Disney post, The Lion King is the number one Disney movie for me. The opening sequence of the movie seems powerful and not only because of the animation, but the song somehow makes it seem complete. The entire soundtrack is perfection, but this song stood out to me the most. The song was composed by Elton and the lyrics were written by John Rice, the song was performed by Carmen Twillie and Lebo M.

Let me know in the comments box below which is your favorite Disney song, I’m curious to know 🙂

See you tomorrow with the Divergent movie review!

Music Monday! Week 47.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Music Monday, today I will be sharing a more recent music video from the Divergent soundtrack. The music video I am going to share is “Beating Heart” by Elle Goulding. Later on this week, I will be writing a Divergent movie review and share with you my thoughts about the movie.

Alright, while I was watching the movie and this song started to play, I was immediately obsessed, I see myself hitting the replay button for weeks. Elle’s vocals are captivating throughout the song and for me it captures the mood of the first movie, perfectly. The music video is quite interesting as well, the music video begins with Elle sitting in a dark room where she drinks a serum and undergoes a simulation. I think idea of Elle pretending to be Tris in the music video is unique and interesting, I actually think it was a great idea because it is something different. Throughout the video, clips from the movie are shown as well as Elle walking around in a foggy forest. Towards the end of the video Elle reunited with a man, since Elle is pretending to be Tris, I assume the man is pretending to be  Tobias, they hug and then Elle wakes up again in the dark room.

I hope you enjoy it and stay tuned for the Divergent movie review post 🙂

See you soon!

p.s. On Friday I mentioned in my one year anniversary post that I am working on a special video project, however I have been having major technical difficulties. I am trying to figure it out, but it might take a while, please be patient and look forward to it. I promise to work as fast as I can 🙂
