Twice – Knock, Knock

There is no doubt Twice is newest girl group to rise to popularity, in fact, they are often compared to South Korea’s favorite group, SNSD. Now, I am not going to compare them to SNSD, because they have their own unique charm.

Twice was formed by JYP Entertainment from the talent competition show, Sixteen. They debuted on October 20, 2015 with their hit song, “Ohh Ahh”, following this single the girls have released  hit after hit.

Their newest single, “Knock, Knock” was released on Sunday, February 19 and in just three days the music video hit 16 million views. It also topped the Melon, Genie, Bugs and Mnet, within eight hours. I think it’s safe to say they are sweeping up to charts in a heartbeat. The song is presented as a sequel to their previous single, “TT”.

In the music video, the girls are having slumber party  and being silly with their friends. When they see it’s snowing outside, they rush out to have a snowball fight, but quickly realize the door shut behind them, being locked out. They rush to go and knock on the door, hence where the sequel part comes into play. In the previous single, “TT”, two children turn around to a knock at the door.

This song has a catchy and cheerful chorus, with their new eye catching “knock, knock” dance. I already have this on replay, will you?

See you soon!

PS. I am hoping that very soon I will be back to posting on a regular basis, however I am thinking about whether to go back to what this blog used to be. I used to post about various topics, I am still figuring it out so I will let you know what happens as soon as possible.

Music Monday! Wonder Girls – I Feel You.

I didn’t think their comeback would come to us so soon, but the Wonder Girls are back!

The Wonder Girls are back as a four member group, with two original members (Sohee, Sunye) officially leaving the group.  JYP Entertainment released a statement, that the girls left on good terms and discussed this decision with the current members.

The build up to their comeback began with JYP Entertainment releasing  individuals teasers. The famous K-pop group is known as dance group, but now they are transformed into a band, with each member playing an instrument. Each teaser is of the members playing an instrument, Lee Sunmi (bass guitar), Kim Yubin (drums), Woo Hyelim (guitar) and Park Yeeun (piano). In an interview with JYP Entertainment’s founder J.Y. Park, he stated that the reason the girls learned to play musical instruments is to allow more room for creativity.

“You can compose a song even if you can’t play any instruments, especially since the 2000’s when writing melodies and lyrics on a pre-made track became a popular form of making music.

But it limits your creativity since you’re writing to a track you didn’t make. So learning an instrument and basic music theory enables you to create your own track which means there’s absolutely no limit to your creativity.

That’s why the Wonder Girls learned their own instruments, not only to perform on stage but to create their own musical colour and it clearly shows on this album.

I’m so proud of them and their new album!” J.Y. Park

I agree with the statement completely, when you learn to play an instruments it allows you to create your own music and you have more freedom.

After a three year hiatus, the girls are back with their 80s inspired single, “I Feel You”, the song will take you back in time to the 80s. The tune, instrumentals, outfits and vocal work really makes you feel like it’s the 80s and not the 2010s. The single has become an instant hit in South Korea since its release on August 2, 2015, there is no doubt the girls will dominate the charts! Their studio album “Reboot” is released on August 3, 2015, with majority of the lyrics and lyrical composition created by the members. In the K-pop industry, it is usually the management company that decides the concept of music videos, writing the music and lyrics for the artists. Now The Wonder Girls have the freedom to decide how to present themselves and share their originality, so for that I give them a standing ovation.

Today I will be sharing their comeback single, and please listen to their albums as well because it is incredible.

Enjoy!

See you soon!

EXO’s Comeback! “Call Me Baby”.

Last year, was a good and a bad year for EXO. From releasing a worldwide hit, “Overdose”, to two members leaving the group. The sudden leave of EXO’s ex-member Kris, left the group shaken up. Fans were not happy, shortly after that Luhan left as well. There have been lawsuits files against SM Entertainment from these former EXO members. This left fans thinking whether or not the group will make a comeback. Will they release another hit single? Will sales drop because of the member lineup change? Most of all, will EXO be ok again?

The answer to this highly anticipated question is finally answered with their recent comeback. EXO released their new single “Call Me Baby” and proved yet again why they are so amazing and popular. Even thought they went through hardships, they came back stronger than ever. Way to go EXO!

There is confidence radiating from each member, especially from Kai who opened the music video. He has so much charisma! Xiumin also stood out for me, I definitely want to see him front and center more often. EXO is known for their great choreography skills and in their new music video, they showcase sharp and sexy dance moves. We also get up close shots of the members singing and dance shots of their choreography. This kind of videography is typical for an EXO music video. Also their sense of style in this video is edgier, you could say we are entering the new era of EXO. “Call Me Baby” was released on March 30th and it already has six million views. SM Entertainment released the Korean and Chinese versions. I will be sharing both of them today!

Now of you’ll excuse me, I have to go back and watch the music video again for the millionth time!

Enjoy and let me know what you guys think about their new single 🙂

See you soon with a Battle Royale movie review!

International Wonderland! SHINEE – Everybody.

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to International Wonderland! Wow, it feels like it’s been a while since I posted anything for this segment or maybe it hasn’t been this long. Well guys, I have an announcement to make, I caught K-pop fever. I’ve been listening to many K-pop bands and today I wanted to share my new favorite band, SHINEE and their song “Everybody”.

SHINEE is Korean pop band signed under S.M. Entertainment, the group consists of five members: Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho and Taemin. The group debuted on May 25, 2008 with their single “Replay” and since their debut they have releases three full length albums, five mini-albums, one live album and many Japanese single releases. SHINEE is also considered a fashion icon, I can see why because whenever I watch their interviews, I think they looked very stylish.

Now let’s move on and talk about the song because it is quite amazing! The single was released on October 14, 2013, the first thing that caught my eye when I watched the music video was the choreography. I thought that the moves seemed a little bit similar to Michael Jackson’s dancing, but not the dance as a whole. Then I read that MJ’s former choreographer Tony Tiesta choreographed this dance and I suddenly felt very proud. Someone who has worked with a legend is now working with an international pop band. It gave me hope that music is recognized as universal thing because there are many wonderful musicians overseas. As for the the vocals, well these boys are right on point and they sing in perfect harmony. Their vocals are clear and they hit those high notes like pros, which they are. Usually when someone talks about K-pop music videos, they visualize lots of color and special effects. However, this music video was simplistic and not overwhelming for the viewers. SHINEE has captured my heart and I am their newest fan, I hope you guys enjoy this music video.

If you are a SHINEE fan, please share what is your favorite SHINEE song 🙂

See you soon!
